The Alliance issued the following on the private members Bill of 31st October being introduced in the name of Evan Harris MP.

This Bill would seek to permit an extension of embryo experimentation and
cloning to produce stem cells. The embryos from which they came would then be discarded.

New findings have shown that stem cells exsist naturally however in adult
tissues and the placenta. It is even possible that adult cells mat be turned
back into stem cells.

These scources do not raise new and fundamental ethical issues.
There are also advantages in directing scientific research towards the
utilisation of one`s own cells.

We do not think the public will accept treatments that would
come from the exploitation of human clones and embryos.
