Safety measure and precautions taken before the hair transplant
There are some of the precautions and considerations taken prior to the procedure including:
- Avoid taking any antiinflammatory drugs like aspirin a week before the hair transplant surgery with the consent of the respective physician.
- Avoid any hair cut before the hair transplant procedure and allow your hair transplant team to shave it as per the requirement.
- Alcohol and smoking should be stopped one week prior to the hair transplant surgery.
- Take proper rest one day before your hair transplant surgery for comfortable and relaxing experience.
Safety measures and instructions to be followed after hair transplant surgery
After hair transplant care is very crucial for the successful outcome and should be followed strictly as per the prescription of your hair transplant team. These instructions are explained as follows:
- Sunlight exposure:
- Direct Sunlight should be avoided for at least one week.
- To avoid direct sunlight loose cap should be worn but rubbing by cap should be avoided.
- Resuming Physical work:
- Routine light work can be initiated the same day but it is advised to take rest on the day of surgery.
- Any work which lead to intense sweating should be avoided for at lest a month.
- Strenuous activity, swimming and outdoor sports should be avoided for a month.
- Steam, sauna and hot baths are also avoided for a month.
- Sleep:
- While sleeping pillow should be raised to 45° for three to five nights.
- Avoid recipient area to get contact by pillow for a week.
- Touching recipient area:
Touching the recipient area should be strictly avoided as can cause infection nd displacement of the grafts.
- Lotion and shampoos:
- Only use the lotion and shampoo prescribed by the hair transplant team as per the instructions.
- HAIR WASHING & HAIR CARE:
- Professional head wash is appointed for the next day of the hair transplant.
- Hair wash can be performed from the second day after the procedure but direct pressure should be avoided.
- While washing you can gently touch the grafts in the beginning 2-3 days.

- Avoid any anti-inflammatory drugs like aspirin that thin the blood which could increase the risk of post-operative bleeding
- Also if you are on vitamin E or Plavix, Coumadin or MAO inhibitor anti-depression drugs must contact us, since hair transplant surgery cannot be done while on these drugs.
- Do not use Viagra or ‘enhancement ‘drugs for 48 hours before surgery.
- The only anti-inflammatory drug that can be used during this time is acetaminophen (Tylenol).
- Alcohol use should be stopped 72 hrs prior to surgery and nicotine consumption (smoking, chewing tobacco, nicotine gums/patches, cigars, shisha, etc.) should be stopped and avoided for 2 weeks before and 3 weeks after surgery.

- Do not consume alcohol 72 hours after the hair transplant procedure
- Abstain from smoking for three days after the procedure
- Do not take aspirin or any blood thinners as they may cause bleeding (except when approved by your doctor)
- Sleep with head elevated for the first few nights after the procedure
- Avoid strenuous exercise for three weeks following hair restoration surgery
- You can walk briskly or play golf after 7 days. Sex may be resumed after 24 hours
- When the bandage is removed shower and shampoo your scalp 3 times
- In the first week Shampoo your scalp very gently
- After maybe 10 to 14 Days the grafts hold becomes permanent only then resume normal shampooing and hair care
- When you step out of the house wear a hat in strong sunlight for the first three weeks
